What I Read in March 2025

Not me thinking I only read like three books this month. Looking at my Storygraph stats, I felt a bit impressed with myself! I kind of wish my stack of books appeared larger, but I suppose that is how it goes when you listen to audiobooks as well.

I am happy to report that I thoroughly enjoyed most of the books I read this month! I officially finished the Goodwill stack (Factory Girls) and have dug into the stack of books I most recently purchased. All of these have been on my list for a long time or are books for my virtual book club. It's the absolute best when you're reading something you are ecstatic about. As I have previously mentioned, I just hadn't felt that just one more chapter feeling in a long time and I am finally getting that again! Project Hail Mary was definitely one of those books I did not want to put down.

I am trying to get through my backlist with my audiobooks currently. I figure it's the quickest way to do that. As I am forever adding to my "to read" list, I don't want to lose sight of those books I wanted to read even ten years ago. It's been going well and I'm slowly ticking that down. I'm also being fairly decisive if I decide the book is no longer for me and getting it off my list. I've grown a lot as a person in the last ten years and sometimes the books just don't hit the same.

I'd highly recommend most of the books I read. The exception is Factory Girls. I think that is a fairly niche read for certain people - I assume if you enjoyed Derry Girls, you'll enjoy this kind of read. But maybe don't listen to me because I've only seen the first episode. Definitely some gems to add to your TBR!

Factory Girls by Michelle Gallen

Just like her other book, I felt very meh about this. I think I liked this one a lot more - I really enjoy girl group dynamics, but it just didn't do much for me. The big thing that happened was definitely more interesting, but, again, felt a bit too much like real life sometimes and I am trying to escape that when I read.

Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body by Roxane Gay ⭐.5

I listened to Hunger and this is a heavy book. You will definitely want to be in the proper head space for this one. It was a good listen, but extremely emotional and devastating. The look at her relationship with food and how she got to where she is... there is so much vulnerability and self-awareness. It's weird how our emotions are so closely tied to food and how we use food in other ways than to just nourish our bodies.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

This was so good! I had read the Martian and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I think this is my favorite. The story is told with the main character slowly getting their memory back with flashbacks and real time. It's a little sad and it's uplifting. Also, weirdly, it's so cute. Rocky!

The Friday Afternoon Club: A Family Memoir by Griffin Dunne ⭐.5

I really didn't know much about the Dunne's, but this was a fun listen. I love memoirs and hearing little stories about famous people that seem like normal life. If you're into the Kennedy type memoirs, you'll enjoy this. The storytelling was really fun.

Long Island Compromise by Taffy Brodesser-Akner ⭐.5

This book was insane. I hated every character, but I couldn't put it down. Honestly, I think I was getting it a little confused with Friday Afternoon Club sometimes. No lessons were learned and terrible people will always be terrible people. I did not really expect the little twist at the end and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. Rich people suck.

The Idea of You by Robinne Lee

I finally read this book. One of my girlfriends has been begging me to watch the film, but I refused until I had read the book. I'm one of those. I haven't watched the film yet, but I will soon. I really enjoyed this. It was cute and the problems between the couple felt real and not too far out there (even if the premise was). The issue of celebrity and age was very well done.
