I have made it to the other side of my no-shop-January! And technically, I didn't quite make it. Grace Atwood posted this dress (brand is WAYF and I don't see it on the website anymore) on her Instagram and I had to have it. It was on major sale at Saks. At first, I did not cave. I squirreled it away in a browser thinking that if it was still available on February 1st, it was meant to be. Well, a week later, I checked in on it and only two sizes were left (no shocker), but it had dropped in price making it only $40 (original price was around $150 I think?). I could not leave it to chance and snagged it. And wowza I'm so glad I did. The fabric is so soft and the fit is impeccable. I am going to get it hemmed to midi length though. I don't mind it long, but I'll wear it more if it's shorter. I did extend my no shopping through the first couple days of February to make up for it.
While, yes, I failed, I do feel like I was more thoughtful about this particular purchase. I even let it sit for a few days. I'm hoping I can take this kind of mindset into my other non-essential shopping. And sometimes it is just as fun putting items into your cart and then clicking away forever.
I think the biggest thing to come from this is I need to be a better shopper. I've gotten too lazy and just search for something quick and cheap on Amazon. I have skimmed through the Saks, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and other websites in their sale categories and found some fantastic pieces for under $50. You can shop better and still not spend a ton of money (though there were a few items that were on sale at $400). I feel like this has really gotten me excited about adding to my wardrobe better pieces that I can wear for a lot longer. I'm also excited to get back to decorating The Apothecary.
