Happy New Year! Honestly wasn't sure I'd make it in one piece, but here we are on the other side. I learned a lot about myself and what I can do in 2022 and I'm looking forward to taking those lessons and healing in 2023. I'm not one to really do resolutions. I don't know if it's the word or people's obsession with becoming something they're not so quickly in a new year (habits take time to form - you don't change over night), but I just don't get excited about them. If I make a change I want to do it because I want to, not because of some arbitrary date.
That being said, this year I'd like to focus on joy and softness. I want to be kinder to myself and to others. I got back into this a bit in 2022, but really want to step it up now. Sometimes when you have months or years where you're the drama it's easy to slip into the "I'm a bad -" mindset. I want to do things that make me happy and make the people around me happy (in ways that respect my boundaries). They can be little like lighting a candle on my desk at work or a bit bigger like randomly surprising my friends with gifts. I also want to take more videos and photos of the small and big moments. I want to look back on 2023 and think - wow, I really lived - even if it was just a lot of nights sipping wine while reading a good book. Less time worrying about what I can't change, more time enjoying my life as it is and a little of what it could be.
