Knitting a Ranch House

Occasionally, even I need to take a break from wearing tights and dresses or skirts all the time. When the rare time comes that I actually decide to wear pants, it is not a lazy decision, but a weather related decision. Just because a person puts on pants does not mean you can just forget about decorum and self-respect. Even my "off" days are better than other's "on" days. But if I'm feeling a little blue (or having a spell of the mean reds) I look to some of my style icons and see what they are wearing on their days off.

My all time favorite movie, Breakfast at Tiffany's, has scene in which the extravagant Holly Golightly is knitting and wearing a pant outfit. It's a very subtle chic. A tan sweater paired with black straight trousers and black flat shoes. Her hair is even a tad unkempt. When Paul Fred takes her out she even mentions as long as she "can go out looking like this".
For the outfit:

While I think just a plain tan sweater is a tad boring, I chose a more lively version. From Forever 21, my sweater has black like polka dots and the sweater is textured. It may still be in stores, however I could not find it online. The cost was around $27. I am wearing black jeggings from AĆ©ropostale and they cost $42.50 (they will have a BOGO free or 50% off deal with them). Forever 21 has a beautiful pleated pant for only $22.80.

And finally, I am wearing a basic pair of black flats from Target. A perfect, pulled together outfit to run errands or lounge around your apartment/house!

For the hair:
The hair is relatively simple. You will need to create a type of bouffant from the top layers of your hair. I pretend like I am about to pull it back into a half pony and just put bobby pins in to hold the shape. Teasing your hair will help a lot to pull the look off. Then, just split your hair down the middle and put in two low pigtails. For added drama, add a clip to the back where you have pinned the upper part of your hair.

And don't forget to carry yourself well. Yes it may just be a sweater, pair of pants, and ballet flats, but if you have confidence in your outfit, then you may as well look as if you have a ball gown swathed around your body. Own it girl.

"I have this strange feeling that the blueprints and the knitting instructions got switched. I may be knitting a ranch house!"
