Camera Roll Crumbs: Arizona

I finally had a wee trip for pleasure and not work. My partner and I went to Arizona to visit his brother and fiancée. For inquiring minds, we were near Gilbert - to be honest, I'm not entirely sure where we were. This was a very different trip than normal with no itinerary and all vibes. It was relaxing, but definitely not long enough!

The journey started out a little off. Apparently they needed some kind of oil and there was possibly something on the wing, but it took an hour (over an hour?) to get it fixed. The main problem was maintenance being so far away - I would consider that an opportunity for improvement, airlines. We waited 40 minutes alone for maintenance to make trips back and forth. Of course, we waited on the tarmac and the AC wasn't working or they turned it off. I wouldn't expect this to be a problem when it was only like 50°F in Indy, but woof, it was hot. But then everything was fixed and we were on our way!

Upon arriving, we immediately hopped into the pool to decompress. A perfect way to start any trip. We then dried off and headed for a late dinner. We were pretty sleepy and running on fumes by this point, but we had a great time. The spot was Culinary Dropout. We actually have one here in Indy. Who knew?! Then it was back to the house for sleep.

I woke up early on Sunday (or normal for me) and decided to just chill outside for a bit. I caught up on some journaling (long-form and my 5-year journals) and got some reading in. The temperature was chilly, but nice. It warmed up fairly quickly to reach a high in the 80's. Once everyone woke up, we (mostly the boys) made breakfast and plopped right back in or around the pool. We stayed there the majority of the day with little food breaks. We cooked all our meals that day!

Monday, we got up very early for a planned hike (the only thing I really wanted to make sure we did) and realized the area we were going wasn't open until 8 AM. As other things got in the way, we postponed the hike for Tuesday. We had another pool morning and early afternoon followed by a trip to the aquarium, OdySea in the Desert. There are actually a few exhibits around there that seem pretty cool! The aquarium was pretty neat and had a sit down tour as well (the "room" rotated in a circle around a few tanks). Then it was time for an early dinner at Fat Ox (Italian). Phenomenal. It was a lot of food, but so worth it. We even saved our leftovers for breakfast the next day. We ended the night with the season finale of Severance (woah, y'all).

Tuesday, we got ready for our 8 AM hike! We did a small portion of the Goldmine Trailhead - I believe we followed the Dynamite Trail for a couple miles. The dogs joined us, so we didn't get through the whole trail, but it was beautiful and a nice 3 miles! The boys headed back into the pool and I stayed out of the sun (I had gotten a little sunburnt on my chest) and read. Before we knew it, we were packed up and headed back to the airport. We got back to Indy around 10:30 PM.

A really wonderful trip visiting some wonderful people! It did feel a little too short, but I highly recommend four day getaways. Something short and sweet to tickle that travel itch without going crazy on budget or PTO. These are just a few snapshots from the trip, if you want to see more, head over to my Instagram stories!
