One Base, Five Outfits

This is what I love most when talking about style and having a personal style. Taking something incredibly basic and turning it into something fabulous. Everyone probably owns a black bottom and white shirt. Whether you identify as male, female, or whatever. Start with that base and you can create so many outfits!

If you're having trouble deciding what to wear in the morning, this is a great formula to use. Start with your base and then add things to make it more interesting. As you can see, in some of these outfits the white tee isn't even shown, but we love a layer! It's especially important for this weather right now that changes forty degrees during the day. Deciding what you're wearing at night is also a big help when getting ready in the morning. And if you're reading this and thinking well I don't have bases, then that's where you need to start.

Just because something is defined as a staple piece, doesn't mean it won't fit into your aesthetic. A button up oxford shirt can fit into any wardrobe, it's how you style it. My advice? Go through your closet and pull out your basic pieces. Do you have too many or too little? Then adjust from there. Sometimes having too many basic or staple pieces will leave you no room to create. Sometimes it's even just about switching up your shoes or jewelry. Years and years ago, I wore the same skirt to work for a week and just paired it differently each day. No one noticed it was the same skirt. It was a navy polka dot circle skirt, so it wasn't easily ignorable either (if you scroll back far enough you'll probably find the blog post).

As a person who shops too much, this might not seem as sincere, but I do truly believe it. You don't always need more clothes. You just need to get over the mindset that one thing has to be one outfit. One piece should create multiple outfits. Find a bottom or top or both that you tend to style one and way and style it with something different tomorrow!
