For the new Haunted Mansion film, I knew I wanted to go dressed in costume to the theater. I have always wanted to cosplay Sally Slater, the tight rope walker from the ride (her portrait is in the stretching room). Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride at Disney (besides Tower of Terror). I have watched the original film too many times (the Muppets version is also amazing). As soon as I heard they were doing a remake, I couldn't wait to see it.
Sally isn't in the original film (in the graveyard you can see her ghost for half a second...) and when I learned that the stretching room was featured in the new film, I knew I made the right choice. The portraits in the stretching room intrigue me because their deaths are obvious, but I've always wanted to know their whole stories. The deaths, while obvious, are also horrific - I mean... death by alligator. Absolutely not.
I am happy to say I absolutely loved this film! I feel like it stayed true to the original in its delivery. It still had comedic moments, but was a bit more scary. It also followed the ride story more, which I was thrilled about. I want to see it in the theater again, but I can't wait until they load it onto Disney+. I'll be adding it to my queue of films for Halloween/fall.
Go see your favorite films in costume. Have crazy photoshoots with your friends. It's all worth it and the most fun.
