In case you can't tell, Fall and Halloween are my favorites. I am definitely most active in September through November. I try to frequent the orchards as much as possible. While I tend to frequent Tuttle Orchards because of where I work, my favorite is Pleasant View Orchard. There is less to do, especially if you have children, but the prices are lower. It also feels a bit nostalgic for me because we went together as a family when I was a child.
My friend, Samantha, along with her daughter, Elora, joined me in apple picking and pumpkin patching. The day was glorious. It started out chilly, but by the time we carried a peck of apples, two pumpkins, and a 10 month old girl we were sweating. Samantha couldn't resist getting her apple biscuits and I had to grab a couple of caramel apples and apple cider.
After we put Elora down for a nap, we used some of the apples (a peck is A LOT of apples) to make an apple crisp. Since the day was warm, instead of sipping hot chocolate, we sipped on apple cider floats. Here is the recipe I use. We then settled in for some Halloween movie favorites: Halloween Town, Phantom of the Megaplex, and Nightmare Before Christmas.
